Winter Trapline Tours

Winter Traplines

Trapping has been interwound with the remote lives of many Alaskans for hundreds of years. It can be summed up as trapping is part of Alaska's heritage.

Trapping trips are the ultimate opportunity for those seeking to experience Alaska's peerless winters. Trips are conducted to provide guest with ample trapping success. Established lines shall be checked during each trip as new areas will be set as well. The main focus of our trapping efforts is on lynx and wolves. Wolves are trapped for their superior northern fur that is used for parkas and mittens. Fur bearers that may also be caught include, beaver, otter, fox, lynx, wolverine, and wolves. At the end of each trip guest may take one fur of each animal harvested during the week.

Remote bush travel is one of the key elements of a professional trapper's livelihood. Traplines are run from the main Horsfeld using snowmobiles. At the end of each day we will return to the Horsfeld where a home cooked meal will be served in the main cabin. Guest sleeping quarters are large insulated framed wall tents. Other activities during your stay include ice fishing, bird hunting and checking the range horses that live in the area year round. Access to the trap line is conducted using bush planes on skis.

About your Guide - Charlie Jagow

I was raised in the bush and a second generation trapper. The bush has been a large part of my life, and with that has come my love for trapping. I trapped as a young kid using a dog team spending nights on the line in wall tents. In more recent years as my lines have lengthened. I am a bush pilot and use my plane to access different trapping areas. Growing up trapping has allowed me to develop the skills essential to running a successful line and surviving harsh arctic conditions. Despite the countless days I have spent in the bush observing wildlife, I am always learning and approach trapping with enthusiasm.
